Animal Rights Group Fined Six-Figures
The League of Humane Voters of New York City, who have long been lobbying to ban carriage horses from Central Park, has just suffered a bit of an upset.
The animal-rights group has just been handed a $104,290 fine for not filing lobbying reports with the city clerk. According to the Daily News, they failed to register or file spending reports while pushing the City Council to protect the horses—now they’ve racked up two years worth of daily late-filing fees (they claim they didn’t know they were supposed to file).
On the other side of the battle, Shamrock Stables owner Ian McKeever says, “We are very, very satisfied and pleased. They have lobbied illegally for years, and justice is back in the saddle again.”
Below is another story re the ASPCA from the same online site……….
A Bronx man who filed a lawsuit demanding clarification of the mysterious circumstances of his dog’s death at an ASPCA hospital received word recently that employees saw a vet kicking and punching his pet Rottweiler before it died. The bereaved owner, 58-year-old Rafael Lopez, began sobbing when he learned of the allegations against the doctor, John Morehead. “They are more [like] animals than the animals in there,” he said of the ASPCA. http://gothamist.com/2010/01/31/aspca_doc_kicked_dying_dog_colleagu.php
