Seven Out of Ten Americans Wrongly Believe
the Humane Society of the United States is a Pet-Shelter “Umbrella Group”
Excerpt from Poll:
I’m going to read you the names of several nonprofit organizations. For each one, please tell me if you are very familiar, somewhat familiar or totally unfamiliar with the organization.
The Humane Society of the United States: 79% familiar (“very”/”somewhat” net)
I’m going to read you several statements. For each one, please tell me if you think the statement is true or false.
71% answered “TRUE”: The Humane Society of the United States is an umbrella group that represents thousands of local humane societies all across America.
63% answered “TRUE”: My local humane society or pet shelter is AFFILIATED with the Humane Society of the United States.
59% answered “TRUE”: The Humane Society of the United States contributes most of its money to local organizations that care for dogs and cats.
48% answered “TRUE”: My local humane society or pet shelter receives financial support from the Humane Society of the United States.
(Tax records filed by HSUS show that all four statements are false.)
HSUS is just another PETA group with a different name. Every animal rights group seeks to change the animals we own legally, into NON-property. That is the big goal and has been for decades.
As an example of how HSUS tries to do this, by alleging that “animals” are “equal” to kids: Take the Stevens case which most people think is about “pitbull” videos and “abuse.” LOL ahahahahaaaa Well if you believe that, then YOU were fooled by the HSUS and friends.
The Stevens case has nothing to do with pitbulls but is in reality, the attempt by HSUS claiming that animal “abuse” depictions are equivalent to child porn in the law, and that this makes such depictions an exception in the law. Since porn is legal but child porn is illegal, guess what?
HSUS says depictions of animal “abuse” is illegal because it is the same level as child porn–and thus should be accorded an “exception” in the law as to free speech. That is what the Stevens case is about. [If you think about it, movies/TV show ILLEGAL crime, gambling, prostitution, robbery, murder, lynching, you name it every single day–but NONE of those items/crimes—are on par with “child porn” at all. If they were, you couldn’t even watch it on TV.]
It has nothing to do with pitbulls or dogs. It could have been any animal, any dog, any cat, anything. The main thing is that HSUS DRUMMED UP THE PITBULL case, and gave it to prosecutors to prosecute.
HSUS does their own RAIDS and kills dogs right there. HSUS does its own search/seizure and executes statements. HSUS steals property from owners by claiming “mill” or “substandard” or whatever. There are no trials because they seize/steal the dogs/cats, etc. Only when owners fight back in Court do we get to learn what REALLY HAPPENED.
Also—see this from Ag Wired………….. HSUS Trying to Pass an alleged “mill” ballot initiative. Lobbyist Karen Strange stated the Missouri Federal of Animal Owners has filed a lawsuit (already) challenging the ‘ballot summary’….This is an excellent tact, since HSUS passed Prop 2 in CA by deception (again) and who knows what will happen in the poultry market before 2015, when Prop 2 in CA is supposed to be implemented.
A new coalition has been formed to protect the rights of animal owners in Missouri. It’s called Missourians for Animal Care. Here are representatives of some of the organizations that support the coalition who were meeting today in the Missouri State Capitol. The group is supporting a bill titled HCS/HJR 86 that would protect the right to raise animals in Missouri.
Why? Because there are animal rights extremist groups like the Humane Society of the United States trying to get a ballot initiative going on that would put severe limitations on the ability of anyone to own and raise animals.
It’s great to see a diverse group of agricultural groups coming together on an issue but this is one that would affect all of them. It’s also sad that they have to fight a completely unnecessary ballot initiative.
Dog breeders in Missouri are licensed and regulated and are great caretakers for their animals but wacko groups like HSUS are using a very derogatory and emotional term to try to gain support which would supply them with money and a foothold for future legislative actions. Their initiative is called The Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act and you need to be aware of it.
To learn more about what’s going on I spoke with Karen Strange, President, Missouri Federation of Animal Owners. Her group has filed a lawsuit challenging the ballot initiative summary which they believed is inadequate to describe what is in the measure itself. They’re challenging the use of the term “puppy mill” which they do not use and is very prejudicial against anyone who breeds dogs. She says, “It’s very, very offensive to the good breeders of Missouri.” They have formed a PAC to raise funds to fight the ballot initiative.
Karen says they see this ballot initiative as just a “first step” to them coming after other agriculture interests. She says they want to help educate the public about this issue so they don’t unknowingly pass something they don’t understand the detrimental effects of. She says this is “nothing but a money making venture by an animal rights organization.” She says we need to just enforce the rules we already have.
If you’d like to have a good resource to use for good information about what the H$U$ is doing then I recommend HumaneWatch.org. You’ll find links to information about this issue there already.
