The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved a regulation Friday that, starting in 90 days, will require all puppies imported to the United States to be at least 6 months old, healthy, and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Census Bureau data show about 8,400 puppies a year were imported between 2009 and 2013. Because there were no regulations, however, the Humane Society of the United States believes the numbers were much higher, said Melanie Kahn, the society’s director of puppy mill campaigns.
Many of the puppies came from mills in China and Eastern Europe, said Deborah Press, of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
This is the second major USDA effort regarding puppy mills in the last 12 months. In September, the agency enacted what is called the “retail rule”: Breeders having four or more female breeding dogs have to be licensed if they are selling to consumers sight unseen on websites, in flea markets or in classifieds.
Both the Humane Society and ASPCA said they routinely get calls from people who unwittingly bought a puppy mill dog from a foreign or U.S. breeder, only to have it die because its illnesses was too severe to overcome.
=========================And WHO would believe “HSUS” or ASPCA–the very groups that had civil RICO charges alleged against them, and then they PAID $9.5M or more, and $15.75M to get rid of the case which alleged RICO?????? WHY would anyone listen to a word they said? Where is the credibility and veracity of people who pay off $9.5M and $15.75M on civil RICO allegations, when they had been involved in a 14yr old case in Federal Court, stopping at nothing to ruin the circus business?? Come on. How dumb can people be?
MORE DRIVEL from the news:
It has been hard to track the number of puppies that are imported, Kahn said, but, she said, “We have seen an increase just in the past few months based on calls from consumers who bought teacup puppies from Korea.”
“We have seen an increase” does not translate to selling ill puppies. “Routinely” and “only to have it die” is not documented nor proven. MORE propaganda as usual.
Basically, the ARs are just trying to FORCE people into HAVING to BUY dogs that are OLDER, REHOMED, and NOT 8 weeks old. We are willing to BET that if a “non profit” like Best Friends flies over to Lebanon, they can bring back whatever they want because a non profit is exempted. We don’t even want to know the “exemptions.” If HSUS wrote the law, and they likely did, it’s just another law to stop sales of animals, and FORCE sales of what the public does not want. Like maybe the fairly sorry looking ones below…….. (the first 4)
AND BELOW that, IS WHAT NO AR’S WANT ANYONE TO WANT, TO HAVE, TO BUY, OR TO FIND ANYWHERE ON EARTH, UNLESS IT’S ALREADY OLD, IT’S ALREADY RUINED BY SOMEONE, OR IT’S ABUSED BY SOMEONE—THEN one must BUY IT FROM A NON PROFIT, A RESCUE OR A SHELTER………..at an inflated price to boot? Like $300-$700 bucks? We have seen blind Yorkies, mini poodles, and other small breed dogs on rescue for $450-$700 nationally. Brain damaged, epilepsy, 3 legs, same thing: $400. These dogs are pretty pathetic, and we think pushing them on people is ridiculous. OR they want you to comb every shelter within 300 miles, spend months waiting, just to get a NORMAL dog? Who are they kidding?
CLEARLY THIS IS NOTHING BUT A MONOPOLY SQUELCHING THE GOODS THAT ARE SOLD TO PEOPLE, BY MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO BUY ANYTHING THAT IS YOUNG, CUTE, HEALTHY OR OTHERWISE DESIRABLE………..
NO…….geez………every one of these dogs was shown on a “rescue” site. the ones that “they” want you to BUY.
We have tons of pictures of many more, each one just about as bad. They are routinely bad if you go to shelters, once in awhile they are ok but at $135-$175, not exactly free.
NO, for sure, NOPE
NO NO NO….AGAIN
~The GRAVY TRAIN OF PROPAGANDA BY ANIMAL RIGHTS…..~
YES WHY not?
WHY NOT AGAIN?????
We aren’t trying to peddle crack babies, fetal alcohol syndrome, or severely handicapped anything; we aren’t trying to force people to adopt severely autistic, brain disease or completely and fatally ill children. If someone is really that rich and WANTS to take on the medical expenses of such kids, that is their choice. But no one should be forcing people to adopt them, and no one should be shutting down the ability to obtain a healthy baby. YET with animals, we are forced consistently to watch as ARs do exactly that. ARs have no clue of animal husbandry or breeding. What they WANT is for everyone to do it their way, their method, believing their propaganda, and buying into their vegan enterprises, their $75 bags of dog food and the whole 9 yards. Might as well tell everyone never to have any kids because they will all grow up to be errant teens, so you should just adopt a bad teen to start with and save 10 years? There is little difference.
